After Yesterday's Foul Ball Scary Scene, Major League Baseball Absolutely Needs to Put Nets Up In All Ball Parks

Yesterday when Todd Frazier ripped a foul ball down the third base line, into the stands, a blowout Yankees win turned into a very scary moment for everyone in the stadium. The foul ball drilled a young girl directly in the face, causing the game to stop understandably.

The ball came in at approximately 105 mph and struck the innocent girl, leading to the people seated near her to call on help immediately. Frazier, a father of two, was clearly shaken up by the horrifying sight. You obviously feel the blame as the hitter in that scenario even though there was absolutely no fault to Frazier. Not only was Frazier visibly upset, but so was Matt Holliday (father of four) standing at second base crying, as he saw it all happen right in front him. I mean, that could be your kid sitting there instead of the poor little girl, you just never know.

I went to the game last week at Citi Field between the Rays and Yankees and noticed that they have nets up and down the foul lines. I texted KFC because it was a bizarre visual, having nets all over the place, but he said that it’s only a matter of time before every stadium adapts to this. I thought about it for a little bit and he was right. And now after seeing this happen yesterday, I think without question it has to become mandatory, starting next year, to put these nets up in all ball parks. Major League Baseball sent out a memo a little while back, advising the netting, but not requiring it. What’s the downfall? Oh your view of the fucking stadium is a little different than before? Trust me, it’s worth your goddamn life. I mean what would it take at this point? Do you want someone to fucking die in the stands? It took that for Josh Hamilton’s low throw to that unfortunate fan for the Rangers to take next level steps and raise the height of the railings. It’s a similar conversation to the NFL with the insane hits players take, or the UFC. Is it going to take dying on the field/Octagon during a game or fight for there to make changes to the game? I don’t necessarily have a stance on that, but with baseball I’m all for nets at the games. Does that make me soft? Fine, I just don’t want little kids dying at games.

Thank God it appears from initial reports that the little girl is going to be okay, but Jesus Christ let’s make these changes before something horrifying as yesterday happens again. Even though the Yankees had a blowout win late in September, that scene at the game ruined my day. I couldn’t stop thinking about it.
